35a. Ignoring symptoms is not enough

Dealing with PD has a lot to do with PD symptoms.

Heaving PD, means we live with PD symptoms every day. Big question is, what is the best way to deal with PD symptoms?

Initially, we try our best to ignore them, and although it is effective in some degree, but according to dr. Janice it is just not enough.

Best way would be, in times when you focus on symptoms, that you switch your focus on your “friend” (by talking or asking him to be there with you or by simply trusting him etc.). I know it is especially hard in those times when symptoms rage, but give it all you’ve got. All of it!

At first, maybe you will not see change in symptoms, but you will feel a change inside yourself. Your inner world (which you have built with your “friend”) becomes more important than outside world. This is a shift you are looking for. It’s just a beginning.

This way we are building new healthy brain habits. After all this is what recovery is all about.

Thank you!

Your mention of “simply trusting him” prompted me to add a focus on feelings of trust to my experience with my “friend.” I think it’s helpful! When doing this, I’ve noticed an enhanced feeling of stillness… not going off pause, but perhaps one more small step in that direction.
